What is KCPAC?

What is KCPAC?

In March of 2012, three local studio artists met on a Sunday morning to paint en plein air, eat breakfast together and discuss the state of contemporary art, their studio practice and their goals.  For every Sunday since that day, at least two and sometimes as many as 17 artists have met to participate in this ritual under the banner of the Kansas City Plein Air Coterie.

The KC PAC has moved forward in that time, building an identity, enjoying positive press coverage, their first exhibition in June 2012 at an Art & Frame Warehouse, a second exhibition in September of 2013, press coverage in both the Pitch and the  Kansas City Star, a guest presentation and instructional event at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (April 20, 2013) and the Kansas City Public Library (September 2013).

In short, we had no way of anticipating the level of interest in a city-as-site specific plein air organization.  What began as an informal weekly meeting of friends has snowballed into a deeply complex social network in the traditional (non-electronic) sense.
